It all started in 1930′s when Franz Goebel an owner of a porcelain firm discovered the artworks of the Franciscan nun named Maria Innocentia Hummel. Goebel gained interest in wanting to produce a line of figurines from the artworks of Sister Hummel. Contracted at the Siessen Convent, Sister Hummel was shown clay models of her drawings. In accordance to the approval of the artist and the Convent of Siessen, Goebel has been granted with the sole rights of ceramic figurines based on Sister Hummel’s original work.
A genuine Hummel product like figurines, plates or bell is distinguished by a definitive mark which serves as an authentication. With the direction and approval of the members of the convent, Sis M. I. Hummel’s request of having her signature stamp incised in every piece of her works has been granted. There are two identifiers of a genuine Hummel figurine; a number molded at the bottom of each hummels figurines and the other identifier is the Goebel stamp (the Official Goebel Trademark) which is found underside of the figurine. Over the years the trademark stamp has been changed but, every authentic Hummel figurine with have to go hand-in-hand with the Goebel stamp on its underside.
